You know, in movies. I keep hearing the word tossed around, the job admired. And yet I have no idea what they’re talking about. So it was finally time to turn to the ultimate weapon in the battle against ignorance. Wikipedia!
Holy crap! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Producer
How many different producers do you need! Let’s see; there’s radio, film, video game, record, web, theatrical, television, and so much more. It’s ridiculous. People can be so pretentious when it comes to titles. A Film producer and TV producer are different, yes. But not so different they each require their own wikipedia page!
And after reading through a few of these wikipedia articles, I am still confused. Let’s look at the first sentence of a Film Producer’s wikipedia page.
“A film producer or movie producer is someone who creates the scenes and conditions for making movies.”
Okay, what? Isn’t that a director’s job? Let’s look it up.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Director
SON OF A (beep)!?
Another list of the different type of directors. Well to be fair, I see the difference of a film director and museum director. In fact, this one is a bit more varied. But it still is no excuse. Anyway since we’re dealing with films, let’s click film director.
Okay. Judging by what is shown here. I’m guessing a director has to do with everything dramatic. Like the actors and script. While the producer deals with everything else. Like the set, crew, etc. While the director can still change everything. It’s the producer who has the final say.
So wait; are they the same thing? What? I am still so confused.
PS: This was supposed to be an educational post!
